Training and Monitoring New Airbag Equipment

Recently the PLLFD replaced old airbags with newer ones. Airbags are used in rescue operations. In instances where a victim may be crushed by a vehicle or heavy object these heavy duty airbags can lift several tons to allow rescuers to extricate crush victims. In addition to the airbags the use of "cribbing" was reviewed as well. Cribbing generally uses wood blocks, in this case 4x4s, to help stabilize the heavy load as it is lifted to prevent it from falling and re-injuring the victim or injuring rescuers. The use of all this equipment requires constant monitoring to ensure safety. In this scenario a control person is located at the airbag site, another person operates controls for inflation/deflation and a third adds cribbing as needed.
