Point Lookout-Lido Fire Department Unveils Firefighting Explorer Post

long beach fire deparment volunteers The Point Lookout-Lido Fire Department is proud to announce the launch of its new Firefighting Explorer Post, a program for young men and women ages 14 through 18.

The Explorer Post will afford young people in the community the opportunity to undertake experiences that will help shape them into responsible and caring adults through a series of fun-filled and hands-on activities. The program promotes the conditions necessary for the growth and development of adolescents who need experiences that allow them to:

  • Interact with peers
  • Participate as a member of a group
  • Learn valuable leadership skills
  • Develop working relationships with adults
  • Acquire a sense of belonging
  • Gain decision making experiences
  • Develop self-confidence

In addition, the Explorer Post will offer participants the opportunity to network with professionals to prepare themselves for careers in the field of fire and emergency services ranging from firefighters, paramedics, emergency technicians, ambulance corps, search and rescue services and forest firefighters.

"The Point Lookout-Lido Fire Department has been committed to serving the community by protecting life, property and the environment for 80 years," said Fire Commissioner Gregory Naham. "We are thrilled to offer the young men and women in our community an opportunity to get involved in this rich tradition at a young age through our new, educational Explorer Post."
